AutoCut

Imagine you have to record or livestream a really long, very boring talk. You will have to cut between the speaker, the audience, the slides, maybe a PiP and a wide shot for hours. This is where AutoCut comes in. AutoCut is a feature that can automatically cut between different shots by leveraging information from multiple video feeds and an audio feed. With this feature, MiruSuite can work fully autonomously.

INFO

Currently, AutoCut supports one very common scenario:

A speaker enters a stage and speaks to an audience. There can be a slideshow. Optionally, there can be a camera that tracks the speaker, a camera that points at the audience and/or a PIP of speaker and slideshow.

We are working on extending full automation to more scenarios like panel discussions or town hall meetings.

Device roles

Each device is assigned an AutoCut role. See the following list to understand what each role is designed for and what you like to have in your setup.

RoleDescriptionRequirement?PTZ?
WideStatic shot over the whole scene.necessaryoptional

PresentationVideo feed of the slideshow. Will be shown when interestings things happen.optionalno

TIP

You need to add a device inside MiruSuite for every role you want to use and attach that role via the AutoCut Role component. This component will indicate which other components are required. Wide, Speaker, Audience, and Presentation need a video feed for example. The PiP device is special as MiruSuite doesn't need a video feed of the actual PiP, the device is merely a container for the switcher input. For visualization, we simulate the PiP by combining the speaker and presentation feed.

Cut style

We offer three different cut styles. They differ in reaction time. They can be selected in the AutoCut settings or when enabling AutoCut.

StyleDescription
GamerQuick reactions to never miss any action.
BalancedBalanced cuts for a professional look.
GrandpaSlow and steady to calm the eye.

Setup

  1. Setup your switcher in the Switcher page.
  2. For every device role that should be available to AutoCut, add a device. Click Setup for AutoCut, select the correct AutoCut role, and add necessary components and a switcher input as suggested by the AutoCut Role component. Give your devices meaningful names by double-clicking on the name.
  3. Turn on all devices.
  4. Enable AutoCut with the toggle switch on the AutoCut page. Select all the shots you'd like to use, select a cut style and click Start AutoCut.

Now you can monitor all decisions and detections on the AutoCut page and intervene if necessary.
