Imagine you're tasked with recording or livestreaming a long, monotonous event. For hours, you'd have to manually switch between shots of the speaker, the audience, the slides, maybe a picture-in-picture view, and a wide shot of the venue. It's repetitive, tedious - and exactly where AutoCut steps in.
AutoCut is an intelligent feature in MiruSuite that automatically switches between different shots by analyzing multiple video and audio feeds in real time. It takes over the routine work of directing, so your team can focus on what truly matters: content, quality, and creativity.
INFO
AutoCut is ideal for: talks, presentations, lectures, town halls, and panel discussions—but it's not limited to these.
Each production can include special inputs like a PiP view, presentation feed, or audience camera. AutoCut uses these to create dynamic and context-aware cuts.
Can I use AutoCut for my production?
If your production fits one of the scenarios above, chances are high that AutoCut will work seamlessly. However, a few prerequisites must be met. Make sure you can answer yes to the following:
For single-speaker setups: No other people are on stage or visible in the frame.
For multi-speaker setups: Each speaker is equipped with their own microphone, and each audio channel is routed separately into MiruSuite.
For multi-speaker setups: Speakers remain mostly stationary and avoid moving around the stage.
INFO
In multi-speaker scenarios, AutoCut listens for active speakers and automatically switches to the appropriate shot - either by jumping to a preconfigured preset or by guiding a camera to that position first.
Device roles
Each device contributing to AutoCut is assigned an AutoCut role. See the following list to understand what each role is designed for and what you need in your setup.
| Role | Description | PTZ? |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | Static shot over the whole scene (e.g. stage or hall). | optional |
| Speaker | Camera that follows the speaker using AutoTracking. | yes |
| Presentation | Video feed of the slideshow. Will be shown when interestings things happen. | no |
| Audience | Camera that points at the audience for reaction shots (laughter, applause). Needs an audio feed to function properly. | optional |
| Audio | Audio feed of the setup. Will be used to detect, applause, laughter, and speech. | no |
TIP
You need to add a device inside MiruSuite for every role you want to use and attach that role via the AutoCut Role component. This component will indicate which other components are required. Stage, Speaker, Audience, and Presentation need a video feed for example.
Multi-speaker AutoCut
For each speaker, you need to add a separate audio input device to your project. In the AutoCut Audio component settings, select all camera presets that display this speaker. Ideally, choose presets from different cameras to increase flexibility and avoid delays.
You can enable or disable individual components as needed (e.g., auto tracking). Once MiruSuite detects that a specific speaker is speaking, it will automatically move an available camera to the corresponding preset and display that speaker in the live feed.
INFO
Theoretically, the speakers can change as long as the microphone and the position stays the same. This is the case for example in town hall meetings when there are lecterns or speaking positions with microphones in the audience. MiruSuite doesn't analyze who is speaking, only if someone is speaking into a particular microphone.
Cut style
We offer three different cut styles. They differ in reaction time and can be selected in the AutoCut settings or when enabling AutoCut.
| Style | Description |
|---|---|
| Gamer | Quick reactions to never miss any action. |
| Balanced | Balanced cuts for a professional look. |
| Grandpa | Slow and steady to calm the eye. |
Setup
- Setup your switcher in the Switcher page.
- For every camera or audio feed that should be available to AutoCut, add a device. Click Setup for AutoCut, select the correct AutoCut role, and add necessary components and a switcher input as suggested by the AutoCut Role component. Give your devices meaningful names by double-clicking on the name.
- In the multi-speaker scenario, save presets for each speaker and select them in the AutoCut Audio component settings. Make sure to select the correct audio channel input for each speaker. In the single-speaker scenario, you do not need any presets.
- Turn on all devices.
- Enable AutoCut with the toggle switch on the AutoCut page. Select all the shots you'd like to use, select a cut style and click Start AutoCut.
Now you can monitor all decisions and detections on the AutoCut page and intervene if necessary.
