How to setup AutoCut

AutoCut
Great! You're about to make your productions even smoother. This guide will walk you through setting up AutoCut, a powerful tool that automates camera switching. Let's get started and simplify your workflow!
The AutoCut algorithm supports you in your everyday productions by automatically cutting between different camera angles and moving PTZ cameras around based on the content of the video feeds and an audio feed (optional). It is meant to take your mind of basic cutting tasks and camera moves, so you can focus on the complex tasks of your production.
For more information on how AutoCut works and what it can and cannot do, see the AutoCut page.
WARNING
This guide is for setting up AutoCut in a single-speaker scenario. If you want to set up AutoCut for multiple speakers, see the Multi-speaker AutoCut setup guide.
Scenario description
Single-speaker AutoCut is designed for recording simple presentation/speaker setups and supports the following shots and inputs:
- A static stage shot that shows the whole scene (e.g. stage or hall) - required
- A PTZ camera that follows the speaker using AutoTracking
- A video feed of the presentation slides
- A PiP of the speaker and the slides
- A camera that points at the audience
- An audio feed (a room mic or a feed with the speaker's audio and the room mic)
Setup the project
Setup a new project and add all necessary devices. For more information, see the project setup guide.
TIP
Make sure to add a device for the presentation input, if available. A PiP input feed is not required.
Video feeds
First, you need to decide how to route the video feeds into MiruSuite. You can use NDI, MJPEG, or a capture card. This depends on your setup and the available hardware.
One common setup is to use NDI® or MJPEG for the PTZ cameras. For best tracking results, we recommend using a capture card for the speaker camera.
The presentation can also be routed via NDI®, for example using the NDI Tools.
TIP
It is also possible to feed the multi-cam view of your switcher into MiruSuite and crop into the different camera feeds. This is enough when you don't need auto tracking.
Common setup example
- Stage shot:
- Static camera (connected via HDMI or SDI to the switcher + MiruSuite)
- Capture card
- Speaker:
- PTZ camera
- Capture card
- Presentation:
- Presentation computer
- NDI via NDI Tools
- Audience:
- PTZ camera
- NDI
Setup devices
Connect all devices to MiruSuite and add the necessary components. If you start with the AutoCut controller, it will tell you which components are missing, e.g. a Speaker camera needs a Head-tracking director and a PTZ controller. For more information see Setup person tracking.
Switcher setup
Connect MiruSuite to your switcher. For more information see Switcher connection.
On the Switcher page, make sure to assign the correct switcher input to each camera in MiruSuite.
TIP
To use a PiP shot, you need to add the presentation input and the switcher input. In the AutoCut controller of the speaker, select the desired PiP input.
Most switchers have this feature built-in. If you're using vMix, you will need to add a new input and combine the speaker and presentation feed to a single feed. You can find more information in this vMix tutorial.
Enable AutoCut
With all available devices enabled and configured, go to the AutoCut page and click the toggle button in the top right corner. In the startup wizard, choose a cut style, select the shots you want to use, and click Start AutoCut.

Monitor AutoCut
You can monitor the AutoCut decisions and detections on the AutoCut page. If necessary, you can intervene and manually switch between shots using the virtual switcher in the Switcher view or using your actual switcher (/software). AutoCut will adapt to your decisions.
WARNING
AutoCut feedback is currently not supported by Ross switchers due to the limitations of RossTalk. If you want AutoCut to adapt to your manual decisions, use the virtual switcher in the Switcher view.
And that's it! You've successfully set up AutoCut. Enjoy the seamless, automated production experience. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our support team. Happy directing!
