Ready to take your vertical streams to the next level? This guide will show you how to use the vMix Framer to automatically crop your 16:9 video for perfect 9:16 streaming on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Let's get your vertical production looking sharp and professional!

Imagine you have a 16:9 input video feed but want to livestream your production to Instagram or TikTok, requiring a vertical 9:16 stream. Cropping the center of the frame may be a solution for some productions but may lead to your viewers missing the action or looking at an empty shot. Or imagine you don't have a PTZ camera at hand but still want to automatically follow a speaker by cropping into your video feed. In such cases, you can still benefit from MiruSuite's excellent tracking quality by using the vMix Framer component.

How does it work?

Feed your input video into vMix and MiruSuite. You can also setup vMix to forward the video to MiruSuite. In vMix, create a virtual input from your video input for MiruSuite to manipulate. Optionally, if you want your output frame to be centered, you can overlay the virtual input on yet another input with the correct pan. Watch the video below on how to setup this scenario.

If you want to manually adjust the framing you can set the control mode to Manual. In this mode, you can use the Adjust button to automatically adjust the frame whenever needed. MiruSuite will only correct one time when this button is pressed. Alternatively, you can click on the icon in the device footer to select your own target position by clicking on the video preview.

How to calculate the right frame width, frame height, and pans

The frame width and frame height are relative to the source video's width and height, respectively. Note that vMix pans are not between 0 and 1 (full length) but 0 and 2.
